1940s UK surfing book
'You and your surfboard' was produced by the Bartlett brothers in 1946 and published in Padstow. The words are by Vernon and seem a bit dated now, from the era of 'jolly good chaps' etc. but its still a good read; the beautiful pen and ink illustrations are by his brother Maurice and really make it a great little book. I spotted it on ebay and snapped it up, there aren't many UK surfing books from this far back; 'The art of surf riding on the Cornish coast' by Ronald Funnell in 1934 is the only older one I know.Vrenon suggests using the landlady's tea tray if you can't get your hands on a bellyboard, and also reports that rocker is overrated and a perfectly flat board is the way to go ! SAS would be proud about his chapter on preventing rubbish on the beach, but in those days it was egg-shell and orange peel, not condoms and syringes - how times change !
