MC in the house

bonzer_vehicleMalcolm will be in the factory shaping next week, so if you need convincing on the merits of a bonzer pop in and say hi from Wednesday onwards… Mr Penwarden or myself will also be around to help you on your way to a more pleasurable surfing experience.

This is one of my all time favourite planshapes from Malcolm… that lovely fullish nose with the curvy middle and straighter drivey tail… oh and masterful pinlines from Moonlight Glassings, Peter St Pierre.

I’ve been doing some American Ash bonzer sides for a few of my boards this week, so hope to get a set on the longboard next week and maybe get in the shaping room as i have a few piling up now!

Joker resin bands

Resin bands planned for the Joker, below… but finally decided on the resin colour scheme, and the pinlines are going to be resin too, which will add time but be a lovely change from the usual sprayed ones… looking forward to feeling that subtle bump on the rail line as I'm paddling around. If you like this please click on the Facebook like button below and if you hate it send me comment with some other ideas as i probably wont get to this until the end of next week anyway as i still have the bonzer fins to foil out of that lovely American Ash!

I’ve been a bit slow on finishing this one due to other design projects pilling up (including a few eco-renovations at our new place, one of which will be for boards)…  but warming up again with 3 new shortboard bonzers to shape ASAP and a new Glass Tiger collaboration FreakFish to get into the pipeline.

Are you (6 fin bonzer) experienced?

Review of the Hendrix FreakFish came in from Florida over the weekend. Stoked that Merrick is getting on with it so well.

“hey Tim, 2 days on the Cosmic FreakFish with a fun lined up swell. Total Speed lines, cut backs and floaters. Really like this board a lot. It is drawing a lot of attention on the beach too. I was catching lots of waves and going for sonic speed. The waves weren’t the greatest but the board worked well and allowed me to go more top to bottom than normal, the board is SO fast.  I am loving this board; all I can say is, WOW !!!!!!!!!!!! Merrick. PS. We still have swell hitting tomorrow and I am on it, DAWN PATROL”

Another birthday bonzer

By the time she is 18 my daughter will have a rack of boards… each one telling the story of each year of her life. Here is her second board. 5’10” EVO5 Hornet with FCS bonzer sides, and a cream and orange resin tint with ink artwork featuring some of her favourite characters of the last year: The Gruffalo, Zog, The Room on the Broom and Tyranosaurus Drip to name but a few. She was typically stoked and immediately started practicing her pop-up on it!

PS Thanks to Daz for rescuing things in the sanding/glossing. I glassed this one and messed up the deck rails a bit when i sanded the laps. That will teach me to rush things!

Buttercup - baby bonzer Porpoise

Resin tint by Jason Grey. Design, shaping and artwork by yours truly, Tim Stafford, for Lilia Grace, age 1yr.

6’4” FreakFish… finally finished and got wet last week. Absolutely flies. I’m finding that the FreakFish is best suited to surfers who surf off their rails; if you prefer to turn off the tail or the fins then you may find it a bit “squirrelly”… but if you like to bury the rail you'll freak over the insane combination of drive, speed, hold and unbelievable looseness… if there was ever a reason to start sinking some serious foam this is it!
This board has a 6 oz glass job, resin foam stain, hand made and foiled wood fins, pinlines and speed coat. As this is my board, if you want to try it drop me a line and you’ll be welcome…

Demo blunt diamond…

Was surfing a great little break I call “Scalps” this morning, lovely right reef (don’t ask where) with a few friendly compadres… and one asked about the blunt diamond demo – so if you happen to be reading this post… here’s a pic. It’s just waiting for Daz to polish it. 6’8” x 21 1/8” x 2 5/8” It has a wide tail but foiled through so its easy to bury the rail and the double concave bonzer bottom keeps it really lively and fast. The fin set up is EVO3 with American Hardwood fins by yours truly. resin tint on the bottom. 6oz + 4oz deck with a 6oz bottom with a 4oz fin patch. This one was glassed by Jason. It also has a Go-Pro camera mount on the nose…

More azure…

P1080396More Azure blue rail – resin tint by Jason this time whilst i was in Baja :) – going to get a little artwork before the gloss and polish.

This board will be heading straight to Morocco with Jack almost as soon as it is finished… wish i could hand deliver it!

Supaglide gets wet…

8’2” x 21 1/16” x 2 7/8” – trihull  single fin. Catches waves really easily, beautiful take offs, glides smoothly and turns from any where on the board. Hope to make some more of these for those people who want the advantages of a long board but don’t want to have to adapt their style. This is a test board so if you want to try it just let me know, and you can take it for a spin. It is also available for sale, huge saving at £600, used but as new.  £350 now well used but still in good condition and rides beautifully. Everyone who has tried seems to have got barreled on it which can't be bad!

Jurassic Amber Cleanline…

Finally finished and heading for some chunky stuff with Anthony tomorrow…
It was too windy and wet with a weather warning so no proper shots down at the beach of this one sadly… I think it is one of the most beautiful to date. P1040017 P1040026

Lucas blunt diamond

This was Lucas’s board finally photographed on a blustery day full of swell at Trevone. 4 hours later he managed to break off one of the EVO3 fins whilst surfing corner at Boobies Bay. He’s gutted and so am I as all the artwork will need to be redone around the fins…
