Hawaii 13 footer challenge: Rumours and misinformation

The Future Primitive design was not created for pipeline, it was designed to be a general purpose longboard. Some people are saying that the board was designed for pipeline, it was not, and I have said this from the beginning. The design is ten years old and many thousands of waves have been ridden on it, including standup backdoor barrels and waves up to 4X overhead. People are also saying that I claim the board to be the ideal board for pipeline, but I do not and never have. . . . my words were that it will make an exceptionally good longboard for pipeline. Exceptionally good means better than most.In spite of what some detractors say the board is easy to ride and is an eminently functional design which loves steep drops and hollow waves. Pipeline is a tall order for any true longboard ( by that I do not include 9x21 lightweight foam thrusters ) but the design has proven itself over many years and on a clean day with a rider who knows the board should make easy work of it.It has also been suggested recently that the board is the first to be built to that shape and it has been sent to Hawaii for testing. This is not the case, the 13 footer in Hawaii right now is one of a line of boards built to that shape at lengths from 12 to 17 feet since 1997.Here's the second 12 footer built in 1999:Originally the 12 foot version was intended for the Hawaii challenge, but the crew at Surf.co.nz who ran the Hikoi wanted to ride the bigger 13 footer, so 13 footer it is
