One of my favourites…

This is an EVO3 Bat tail 6’6” that would suit anyone looking for some performance in a broad range of waves, combined with easy wave catching (without the duck diving difficulties of a wider nose). The spray, tint and artwork are all just classic late 70s. I think it’s beautiful.

Can't believe this board is still sitting in the shop in Trevone.  Let’s hope this post helps this one find a happy home.

Sprat FOR SALE

5’8 x 19 7/8 x 2 5/8” VORTEX bonzer bottomed Sprat is up for sale. Loving this board… it really is amazing (to me) that i can ride it, it being so short and me so heavy (13 1/2 stone). It is fast and loose and I've tested it in well overhead surf which, even more amazingly, it loved and I loved how it surfed. I’m putting it up for sale due to the new Indo quiver so it will be a great board for anyone looking to move onto a shorter board to get a bit more radical. Can ride as a thruster or quad and will come with whichever set up you prefer. This design really changes how you think about what you can ride. So £175 will get this SPRAT. It has a pretty well depressed tail area but has stood up to my weight and has plenty of life left in it. Small ding on the rail and one on the bottom – all will be fixed for collection. Drop me a line if you fancy it.

SOLD: Atlantic POD bonzer EVO5/6 – your flexible friend

EVO5 bonzer The Atlantic POD - Tim Stafford Custom Surfboards, Cornwall

Traditional bonzer EVO5 set-up:

For those who love the pivot and smooth rail to rail transition of the traditional bonzer set up. EVO5 features changes to the bonzer side fins for additional drive in slower lower energy waves typically found in the UK.  This set up is well suited to any size surf and will deliver the typical bonzer experience.

EVO6 bonzer set-up:

EVO6 bonzer Atlantic POD - Tim Stafford Custom Surfboards, CornwallThis is ideal for beach breaks where you want to get immediate drive mid face to get going down the line. Using FCS MR side fins to replace the single fin there is heaps of drive and hold. Suited to power surfers and those who like plenty of fin to push against.

Arc EVO6 bonzer for smaller waves:

EVO6 bonzer with CRV sides - Tim Stafford Custom Surfboards, CornwallThis fin allows more easy rail to rail transitions than a conventional fins. The curved profiles have less resistance to go from rail to rail, and therefore it feels more like a single fin bonzer, but with the extra initial drive of the twin rear fins. Ideally suited to smaller, slower waves as the fins offer less resistance to turn.

ARC2 EVO6 bonzer for smaller waves:

EVO6 bonzer with CRV rears - Tim Stafford Custom Surfboards, CornwallWant the lower resistance but with increased stability, this set up utilises 2 of the rear G-CRV fins, providing a stable but more pivotal experience than the standard EVO6 set-up. Great in more hollow waves for late drops into the barrel and subtle adjustments in the pocket.

Other set-ups:

It really is a matter of personal taste and everyone who has ridden these boards tends to have a different favourite. Try using 2 symmetrical FCS G5 rears for easier turning than the conventional set up. Use Quad asymmetrical foil sides as your rears for more drive. That really is the beauty, experiment and find your favourite. What is proven is that by splitting the rear bonzer single fin effectively in two, and placing them out to the rails the board responds more quickly in terms of drive and that this makes them much more usable in fast beach breaks where you don’t always have the luxury of starting off with a nice bottom turn.

Quiver for sale...

Having a bit of a clean out so the following boards are up for grabs... from near to far...

  • Ocean Magic 7'0" diamond tail, shaped by Nigel Semmens with bonzer TS EVO3 fins. Lovely retro board that Nigel and I collaborated on for medium to large surf with glide and fluidity as the objective. Despite having taken it out at several of Cornwall's larger surf spots this board is in As-New condition; resin tint on bottom, spray on deck, glossed and polished, and hardly a heel impression. Collectable... £300
  • Rockit 7'4" Pintail 5 fin by underground legend Phil Clifford. Great travel board as the 5 fin set up will go in anything. I took this board to SE Oz  and then onto the Mentawais. 6oz glass job and As-New condition. Collectable... £250
  • Campbell Bros 6'6" POD Bonzer 5 SOLD- 2007 Malcolm Campbell glassed at Ocean Magic... showing some battle scars but still the perfect introduction to bonzers... best roundhouse cutback board ever - (until I came up with the FreakFish). Collectable...£350 for a piece of surfing history.
  • Jim Banks 6'10 thruster Indo-special shaped for my trips to Sumatra. A special board with special memories of some of the best barrels of my life. Comes with Speed Fins including a spare set of fronts... another collectable (my garage just isn't big enough) in beautiful condition, no dings just a few dents... £255
  • Rockit 7'4" pintail thruster SOLD I had shaped by Phil for my time in the Caribbean. This board lost out to Hurricane Mitch and shows it, but it is still a magic board and ideal for someone who would like a reliable gun that they can play on or just a cheap board that will go in just about anything... if it doesn't sell I'll probably knock the fins off  it as they are worth the money alone, (from C-Fins with carbon inlays)...

Supaglide gets wet…

8’2” x 21 1/16” x 2 7/8” – trihull  single fin. Catches waves really easily, beautiful take offs, glides smoothly and turns from any where on the board. Hope to make some more of these for those people who want the advantages of a long board but don’t want to have to adapt their style. This is a test board so if you want to try it just let me know, and you can take it for a spin. It is also available for sale, huge saving at £600, used but as new.  £350 now well used but still in good condition and rides beautifully. Everyone who has tried seems to have got barreled on it which can't be bad!
